Announces the following vacancy for the 2022-23 season


Sinfonia Toronto is a per-service chamber orchestra operating under a master agreement with the Toronto Musicians' Association. The 2022-23 contract is currently under negotiation. The 2021-22 contract offered a guaranteed minimum of 37 services.

Sinfonia Toronto presents its Masterpiece Series in the Meridian Centre for the Arts and the Jane Mallett Theatre, performs regularly in other Ontario centres, and presents education/outreach performances in the Greater Toronto Area. The 2022-23 season will include a CD recording and a possible tour of South America in the spring of 2023. The orchestra has toured twice in Europe, United States, China and South America in Peru, Argentina and Uruguay. Sinfonia Toronto has recorded four CD recordings, including a JUNO Award winner. Its repertoire includes most of the standard chamber orchestra music as well as many contemporary works; it has given numerous premiere performances.

Auditions are by invitation. Auditions will be held on Monday, September 12, starting at 1:00 pm at the Willowdale Emmanuel United Church, 349 Kenneth Avenue, Toronto.

Audition repertoire

1. The first movement of a Mozart Concerto of candidates choice OR the first movement from one of the following concerti of candidate's choice: Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Khachaturian, Glazounov

2. First violin excerpts from the following works:

Mozart: Symphony No. 40, 1st movement

Dvorak: Serenade, movements 2 and 5

Suk: Serenade, movement 1

No sight-reading will be required. Applicants must play their concerto choices without piano accompaniment. Music for the excerpts can be downloaded from
