General Manager

 

Sinfonia Toronto invites applications for the position of General Manager.

 

Sinfonia Toronto is a chamber orchestra of thirteen players celebrating its 10th Anniversary season in 2008-2009. It presents a seven-concert Masterpiece Series as well as community outreach and run-out performances. In November 2008 the orchestra will tour Germany and release a new CD on Marquis (EMI).
 

The General Manager will work closely with the Music Director, Volunteer Coordinator, Treasurer and chairs of Board committees. He/she will be responsible for day-to-day operations and report to the Board of Directors. He/she will support the artistic vision of the Music Director, enhance the orchestra’s profile, work collaboratively with the members of the orchestra and maintain priority focus on sales and fundraising objectives. The General Manager must be committed to excellence in service to the orchestra’s musicians, donors and patrons. 
 
The successful candidate will have a passion for music, previous managerial and relationship-building experience, and demonstrated skills in marketing, communications and finance as well as previous leadership experience in non-profit or for-profit contexts. Electronic marketing expertise will be a plus. 

 

Direct responsibilities:

- Publicity and advertising, including press releases, mailings, posters, press relations and paid advertising.

- Fundraising, “fun-raising”, and community relationship building

- Actively reaching out to prospective donors/sponsors, corporations, small businesses.

- Ticket printing, sales, box office operations, reconciliation.

- Production of program books, season brochures, event flyers, etc.

- Negotiation and contracting of guest artists and venues.

- Soliciting and administering program advertising accounts.

- Answering telephone, mail, and email inquiries.

- Preparation of grant applications.

- Maintenance of database and preparing bulk mailings.

- Attend dress rehearsals and concerts to coordinate operations.

- Attend Board of Directors meetings and selected committee meetings.
